The History of Metalville
Founded in 2008 by Chris Boltendahl (Singer and Songwriter of German Metal Veterans GRAVE DIGGER) and Holger Koch (former A&R of Nuclear Blast, Head of International Locomotive Music and Business Manager of Doro).
The name Metalville is inspired by Motown Records - their recording studio was named "Hitsville".
After the bank crises, while looking for the right new record deal for Astral Doors, we couldn`t find the right record deal.
There was an interview in the Business Magazine MUSIKWEEK, given by an international MD of a Major Company. He gave a pretty good look inside his strategy by presenting the 360 degress modell as the only business future. Well, maybe for a major company but not for an Artist.
It was clear to us - if this is the future, there will be no chance for a rock artist to make a living from the income that he may generate by presenting his music.
The main goal was to protect our own artists, so we started with our first release which was Astral Doors - Requiem of Time.
It hit the German and Swedish charts. All Astral Doors albums that we released after that entered the Charts.
To our surprise, more and more bands contacted us - pretty cool bands too. Jim and Bob from Monster Magnet came with their side band Riotgod. The Quill sent us their comeback album. Mike from Boiler Room started with his new band Black Water Rising - our first Billboard Chart entry.
Our death metal band Degradead entered the charts in Japan.
After we switched to Rough Trade Distribution our situation improved unbelievably well.
Our first Mustasch release got certified with a Gold Record in Sweden. Our Astral Doors singer Patrik Johannsen got a Gold Record with the debut album of his other band Civil War.
The years went by and more and more great bands signed with Metalville, supplying us with great music.
In 2013 Ugly Kid Joe joined Metalville, Black Water Rising entered the Billboard Charts again with their 2nd Album "Pissed and Driven".
In 2014 Mr. Paul Di'Anno gave us the honour to have his comeback with his new band Architects of Chaoz.
We also signed the German rock phenomenon Kärbholz and started our biggest release campaign at that time.
2015 came, which was our dream year.
It started the first week of February with a German Top 10 Charts entry with the Kärbholz Album `Karma`. The Album also hit the Austrian and the Swiss charts where it stayed for 5 weeks.
After Kärbholz, we released an Architects of Chaoz album and got nominated for two Metal Hammer Awards.
The summer of 2015 was dominated by our new German bands Harpyie, Vogelfrey and Die Bonkers.
In the USA we had remarkable success with the new album of the TSO guitar player Chris Caffery and with the debut albums of Archer (now Archer Nation) and Masters Of Metal.
The fall was the ultimate blast. The new Ugly Kid Joe Studio Album "Uglier Than They Used Ta Be" entered the French, the UK and the German charts.
Three weeks later the album entered the Billboard Top 200 by reaching the peak on place 140. Pushed by Erik Baker of Concrete Marketing and Munsey Riccy, the single "She´s already gone" entered the BDS Radio Charts with the highest peek at place 25 after more than 100 days on Airplay.
Kärbholz' success album `Karma`, in combination with the Karma Live album, re-entered the german charts on place 26 and we had the honour to give the band the Impala Silver Award.
This is just a short flashback of a Label Story that is too good to believe.
We are excited to find out what will happen in the future.
