The Quill wurde in den frühen 1990er Jahren von Sänger Magnus Ekwall, Gitarrist Christian Carlsson, Schlagzeuger George Atlagic, Organist Anders Haglund und Bassist Peter Holm gegründet. Peter Holm verließ die Band Ende 1993 und wurde durch Roger Nilsson ersetzt.

Im März 1995 wurde ihr selbst betiteltes Debüt in Europa veröffentlicht. Das Album wurde von den Kritikern überwältigend aufgenommen und wurde später in Schwedens größter Umfrage der Zeitung "Aftonbladet" auf Platz 70 der Top-100-Alben des Jahres gewählt.

  Im Mai 1997 verließ Anders Haglund, die Band. Die anderen beschlossen als vierköpfige Band weiterzumachen.

 Anfang 1999 erschien das zweite Album “Silver Haze”. Im Sommer des selben Jahres folgte ein gefeierter Auftritt beim Sweden Rock Festival.

 Das dritte Studioalbum  “Voodoo Caravan” wurde 2002 veröffentlicht. wurde.

Weitere Live-Shows folgten mit einem Auftritt beim Wacken Open Air als Höhepunkt des Jahres.

 “Hooray! It's a Deathtrip” (2003) präsentierte eine härtere und fokussiertere Auswahl an Songs. Um das Album zu promoten, schlossen sich The Quill mit der norwegischen Band Gluecifer und den Headlinern Monster Magnet zu einer ausgedehnten Europatournee zusammen.

 2005 verließ der Bassist Roger Nilsson die Band und Robert Triches nahm seinen Platz ein.

 Im Jahr darauf erschien das fünfte Studioalbum “Triumph”.

 Nach dem Ende der "In Triumph"-Periode beschloss Sänger Magnus Ekwall, die Band 2007 zu verlassen.

 Die drei verbliebenen Mitglieder (Atlagic, Carlsson, Triches), entschieden sich einen neue Sänger in die Band zu holen und ein weiteres Album aufzunehmen.

Gemeinsam mit dem neuen Frontmann Magnus Arnar erschien im Sommer 2011 das Album “Full Circle” bei Metalville Records.

 Im Anschluss an die Veröffentlichung unternahm die Band ihre größteTournee seit vielen Jahren, mit Auftritten in ganz Europa und, zum ersten Mal auch in den USA.

 Im April 2012 kehrte der Bassist Roger Nilsson zurück, und die Band begann an den Songs für das nächste Album “Tiger Blood, zu arbeiten, welches im Mai 2013 veröffentlicht wurde.

 Nach dem Wiedereinstieg des Originalsängers Magnius Ekwall erschien m August 2017 das nächste Studioalbum mit dem Titel "Born From Fire".

The Quill was founded in the early 1990s by singer Magnus Ekwall, guitarist Christian Carlsson, drummer George Atlagic, organist Anders Haglund and bassist Peter Holm. Peter Holm left the band in late 1993 and was replaced by Roger Nilsson.

 In March 1995 their self-titled debut was released in Europe. The album was overwhelmingly received by the critics and was later voted 70th in Sweden's biggest survey by the newspaper "Aftonbladet" in the top 100 albums of the year.

  In May 1997 Anders Haglund left the band. The others decided to continue as a four-piece band.

 In early 1999 the second album "Silver Haze" was released. In the summer of the same year a celebrated performance at the Sweden Rock Festival followed.

The third studio album "Voodoo Caravan" was released in 2002.

Further live shows followed with a performance at the Wacken Open Air as the highlight of the year.

 "Hooray! It's a Deathtrip" (2003) presented a harder and more focused selection of songs. To promote the album, The Quill teamed up with the Norwegian band Gluecifer and the headliners Monster Magnet for an extended European tour.

 In 2005 bassist Roger Nilsson left the band and Robert Triches took his place.

 In the following year the fifth studio album "Triumph" was released.

 After the end of the "In Triumph" period singer Magnus Ekwall decided to leave the band in 2007.

  The three remaining members (Atlagic, Carlsson, Triches) decided to bring a new singer into the band and record another album.

 Together with the new frontman Magnus Arnar the album "Full Circle" was released in summer 2011 on Metalville Records.

 Following the release, the band went on their biggest tour for many years, with gigs all over Europe and, for the first time, also in the USA.

 In April 2012, bassist Roger Nilsson returned, and the band began working on the songs for the next album "Tiger Blood," which was released in May 2013.

 After the return of the original singer Magnius Ekwall, the next studio album, "Born From Fire", was released in August 2017.
